The history of punjab dates back to the indus valley civilisation,more than 4,000 years ago ,when the cities of harappa and mohenjodaro flourished here the mahabharat, set between the7th and 5th centuaries BC, is believed to have
taken place in this region.
The region is also closely linked to the Ramayana, with lord
ram’s son lav and kush growing up in the forest
of punjab
In 1469,guru nanak was born in talwandi [now in pakistan] his followers are called sikhs but the foundation of presnt day punjab was laid by banda singh bahadur, a hermit who became a militry leader.banda singh and his group of sikh fighters fought against mughal rule in 1709-10 and temporarily liberated punjab.
