This beautiful art form is believed to have originated in the 15th centuary AD and further developed during reign of maharaja ranjit singh at that time much like today phulkari textiles were included in the bridal trousseau and every occasion called for a differnt phulkari . Some historians believe this craft may have been influenced by percian art, where aform of embroidery called gulkari exists which has similar floral patterns to phulkari .
